While Estella Remley isn’t squeamish about blood or needles, it’s the business side of healthcare that truly sparks her interest.
“I want to help people improve their health,” she explains, “just not in the capacity of a nurse or doctor.”
At Ohio Northern University, Estella found the perfect match for her interest: the pharmaceutical and healthcare business major offered through the Dicke College of Business Administration. Networking with Ƶ alumni helped her refine her career goals even further, pointing her to surgical device sales.
“This summer, I shadowed two surgeries, a hip replacement and knee replacement, with an experienced salesperson who walked me through both surgeries and shared a lot of information about his role in the operating room,” she said. “It only deepened my interest.”
A graduate of Covington High School (Covington, Ohio) and a first-generation college student, Estella initially worried about whether she would fit in or fall behind on campus. Those concerns quickly faded.
“Because of the wonderful community at Ƶ, I have made connections with professors and students that have taught me how to be a successful student, professional, and leader,” she said.
Now a junior, Estella is involved in 10 student organizations, including Student Senate, the Healthcare Business Association, and the business college’s Dean’s Advisory Council.
She’s also works in admissions as a Good News Bear, and served as a head bear for the 2025 summer orientation sessions. Normally reserved, she says her outreach to incoming students has forced her to come out of her shell.
“I have been able to help so many new students feel more comfortable and prepared for their time at Ƶ, while sharing my love of Ƶ with them,” she said.
Whether she’s welcoming new students, or, one day, helping surgical patients though her work, Estella has a heart of service.
“I love to help people,” she said. “And at Ƶ, I’ve been able to follow that passion by getting involved on campus. I love belonging to a community of students that lifts each other up.”
