Our Digital Communication & Content Creation (DCCC) concentration and minor both offer a unique educational experience for students who wish to learn to learn the industry, tell stories across platforms, and create work that informs, entertains, and inspires.

A DCCC major requires pursuing a BA in Communication & Media, and selecting the concentration after consultation with an advisor. Communication & Media is a flexible and comprehensive major dedicated to understanding how various forms of mediated communication create, sustain, and transform human relationships, communities, and institutions.
Courses in the major and minor:
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; explore how communication processes create our social worlds
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; cultivate students’ abilities to analyze and critique those processes
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; teach students to be effective communicators and media creators
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; deliver hands-on practice in communication skills essential for a variety of personal, professional, and civic contex

The DCCC minor is a terrific addition for any student whose interests lie in content creation and developing media production ability. These are in-demand skills that would be of benefit to students entering a range of professions and with a range of creative interests. It requires 6 total courses:
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; CAMS 1091: Introduction to Content Creation
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; CAMS 1101: Adaptive Media Production
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; Any four other CAMS elective courses (chosen in consultation with an academic advisor)

What you will do

Students in the Digital Communication & Content Creation program explore the production of content for television, websites and interactive media. With studies in digital video production and editing, graphic design, interactive media and web design, students develop a broad skill set and an understanding of both traditional and new media.

A DCCC degree or minor opens doors to creative, tech-savvy, and fast-moving careers where you can tell stories, engage audiences, and make an impact:

Digital Content Creator – Produce videos, blogs, podcasts, and social media content that informs, entertains, and inspires.

Multimedia Journalist – Report and create stories across TV, radio, web, and social platforms.

Creative Producer – Lead projects from concept to final product in film, TV, web, or interactive media.

Broadcast & Digital Media Producer – Oversee and create content for TV, radio, podcasts, or online streaming, making sure every story reaches its audience effectively.

Entertainment Media Coordinator – Work behind the scenes in media companies, helping bring projects to life and managing creative workflows.

Sports Media Specialist – Capture, edit, and share the excitement of sports through digital storytelling.

UX Designer & Digital Experience Creator – Design websites, apps, and interactive content that are intuitive, fun, and engaging.

Social Media Strategist – Build online communities, grow audiences, and shape how brands and organizations connect with people.

Creative Talent Manager – Help artists, influencers, and creative professionals bring their visions to life.
Digital Storytelling Across Platforms
Learn to create content for video, web, interactive media, and emerging digital formats. Great for careers in digital media, entertainment, and content creation.

Media Production & Editing Skills
Gain hands-on experience with digital video, audio, graphic design, and multimedia editing tools. Great for careers in production, broadcasting, and multimedia journalism.

Visual & Interactive Design
Explore graphic design principles, web design, and interactive media to make content that connects with audiences. Great for careers in UX, creative production, and digital design.

Creative Concept Development
Learn to develop ideas from concept to final product—thinking like a creator, producer, and storyteller. Great for careers in creative direction, social media, and content strategy.

Adaptation for Multiple Media Environments
Understand how to tailor messages for different platforms, audiences, and technologies. Great for careers in marketing, entertainment media, and content writing.

Critical Understanding of Media & Society
Study how media shape culture, identity, and communication in a rapidly evolving world. Great for careers that require media literacy, cultural awareness, and analytical thinking.

Collaborative Production & Project Work
Work with peers on real media projects that build your portfolio and professional experience. Great for careers in team-based creative fields, production companies, and digital agencies.
•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; Jeff St. Onge, PhD (Department Chair). Dr. St. Onge’s focus is on rhetoric (the art of communication), political communication, freedom of speech, and music as communication.

•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; Mark Cruea, PhD. Dr. Cruea studies and teaches interpersonal communication, film, and video games as communication.

•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; Megan Wood, PhD. Dr. Wood focuses on the relationship between communication, politics, and popular culture, teaching critical thinking in courses like gender & communication, communication theory, and cultural studies & media analysis.

•&�Բ��;&�Բ��;&�Բ��; Shane Tilton, PhD. Dr. Tilton teaches journalism, content creation, and a range of courses related to the impact of cultural forms, including a popular course on memes and their role in society.

Digital Communication & Content Creation Courses and Curriculum

Students need a total of 18 hours of coursework to complete a minor in Digital Communication & Content Creation.

Students take the following two core courses:
Introduction to Content Creation
Adaptive Media Production

Students then choose ONE of the following three fundamental program courses:
Adaptive Media Production
Culture Studies and Media Analysis
Rhetorical Theory

Additionally, students choose three of the four elective program courses:
Multimedia Writing
Video Storytelling
Podcasting
Narrative Photography
